“Invest in the future! A call to strengthen R&I in Europe”: Open Letter and Advocacy Event with Enrico Letta and Maria Leptin

Now that the new European Parliament has been elected, and that new Commissioners will soon be appointed, it is even more crucial to unite and come together as a sector in the run-up to the negotiations on the next EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034.
Earlier this year, the Coimbra Group joined efforts with the University of Bergen and 14 leading European R&I umbrella organisations under the #ResearchMatters campaign, advocating for increased funding for research and innovation and for doubling the budget for FP10.
Open Letter
Interested organisations can still sign our Open Letter urging Finance Ministers of European countries, and the European Council, Commission and Parliament, to act boldly and:
- Push funding for research and development in Europe through the achievement of over 3% of the GDP within the European Union and all European countries.
- Double the budget for the EU’s next research & innovation programme (FP10) to reach 200 billion
- Protect the latter by ringfencing the budget.

Brussels Event
To amplify our impact, we are convening a high-level advocacy event geared towards representatives from the EU institutions and national governments. The event is called “Invest in the future! A call to strengthen research and innovation in Europe”. It will take place at the CSIC Office in Brussels (Rue du Trône 62), on Wednesday, 2 October 15.45-17.00, followed by a reception.
