Coimbra Group appoints two new members to its Administrative and Financial Committee

The Coimbra Group Executive Board has appointed Cecilia Raunio (Åbo Akademi University) and Stanisław Kistryn (Jagiellonian University) as new members of the Coimbra Group Administrative and Financial Committee (AFC), following an open call for nominations among Coimbra Group Rectors.

The Executive Board warmly welcomes both appointees and looks forward to drawing on their expertise and experience as the Coimbra Group continues to strengthen its governance and long-term financial sustainability.

The Administrative and Financial Committee supports the Executive Board on matters relating to the network’s financial management, budget planning and membership fee policy, helping to ensure that the Coimbra Group remains well positioned to deliver on its mission and strategic priorities.

New expertise for the AFC

Cecilia Raunio, Chief Financial Officer at Åbo Akademi University, brings extensive experience in financial management, strategic planning and organisational development. In her current role, she leads the university’s finance, ICT and campus development functions and contributes to executive-level decision-making.

Stanisław Kistryn is Professor of Physics and the Rector’s Proxy for Cooperation within Una Europa at Jagiellonian University. He currently serves as Treasurer of Una Europa and has previously held the position of Treasurer in other European university networks. His broad experience spans university leadership, research policy, international cooperation and higher education funding.

With these appointments, the AFC comprises Patricia Pardon (KU Leuven), Chair, Danny Donoghue (Durham University), Treasurer of the Coimbra Group, Ana Coimbra (University of Coimbra), Cecilia Raunio (Åbo Akademi University), and Stanisław Kistryn (Jagiellonian University). The Committee brings together expertise in university finance, institutional governance, research administration and strategic management to support the Executive Board.

Recognising outgoing members

On behalf of the Coimbra Group, Executive Board Chair Ludovic Thilly thanked the outgoing members for their dedicated service, with particular appreciation for Jessica Leyvine (UCLouvain), who served on the AFC continuously from 2013 to 2025 and notably made a significant contribution to the accounting of EU-funded projects.

Welcoming the new appointees, Ludovic Thilly said: “We are delighted to welcome Cecilia Raunio and Stanisław Kistryn to the Administrative and Financial Committee. Their broad financial and administrative expertise, together with the complementary experience they bring to the AFC, will be invaluable as the Coimbra Group addresses important financial and strategic decisions.
