The survey is available in seven languages, including English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, and takes around 10 minutes to complete.
As part of the European Research Area (ERA) Structural Policy on Research Careers (2025-2027), co-sponsored by the Coimbra Group and by Portugal, the OECD and the European Union have launched a new international survey of R&D personnel.
The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and will generate valuable insights into how R&D work and careers are evolving globally. The evidence gathered will help policymakers, institutions, and the wider research community better understand the opportunities and challenges faced by R&D professionals today and in the years ahead.
Who can participate?
The survey is open to all R&D personnel. While researchers are a key target group, participation is also strongly encouraged from those who support research and innovation activities, including:
- technicians
- librarians
- research managers
- administrators
- other professional and support staff involved in R&D
Participants can access the survey using their ORCID credentials or request a personalised survey link by email.
Why does this matter?
The survey contributes to the work of the Research and Innovation Careers Observatory (ReICO), an initiative that brings together internationally comparable data, statistics, and policy-relevant evidence on the careers that drive science, technology, and innovation. Covering more than 50 countries, ReICO is helping to build, for the first time, a comprehensive picture of research and innovation careers worldwide.
